Tracking Clinic - Introduction to Tracking

Tuesday April 19, 2011

2:00PM (following the Tracking Dog Test)

This is an introduction to tracking for beginners: how to get started, what gear is needed, books on tracking. We will have a short lecture/question and answer, then hit the fields for some actual tracking with your dog.

We will train the scent pad/scent circle method, but will explain other methods to start a dog on tracking.

Each participant will need a collar ( buckle or snap, no pinch collars), as well as a six foot lead, harness (non-restrictive) if you have one, but not necessary, and food bits. Best food is small bits of hot dogs, cut in very, very small pieces, or bratwurst cut in small pieces. Large treats or crunchy treats are NOT good for tracking training. Bring an old sock, glove, or handkerchief for your start article, and a similar article for an end article.

The Clinic location will be held next to the herding venue for the lecture portion, then a short distance down the road for the tracking training.

Cost: $10.00 per person/with one dog, each additional dog is $5.00 same owner.

Make checks payable to ABMC and mail with Tracking Clinic Form to:.

  • Bonnie Craig
  • PO Box 635
  • Central Lake, Mi. 49622

Day of clinic will be accepted if there is room available.

Those attending the clinic may have additional training, at no cost, on other days of the specialty, when time allows.
