 Dune herding

We are excited to be having two herding trials, (Course A-sheep), one all-breed and one Malinois only.

We are pleased to have Terri Jones and Priscilla Phillips as our herding judges.  Terri Jones will be judging our all-breed trial and Priscilla Phillips will be judging the Malinois-only trial.

Priscilla Phillips

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Priscilla Phillips and I'm from Reno, Nevada where I have lived almost my entire life. I started herding in 1994 with "ES" a Rottweiler bitch, prior to that I trained and competed in obedience, carting, agility, and conformation.  I have also always had a registered therapy Rotty.  Needless to say, I fell head of heels about herding and from there became an AKC herding judge.  I love working the upright dogs and I'm looking forward to judging this wonderful breed.  Thank you for having me and good luck and fun at  your Nationals.

Terri Jones

Terri Jones

My name is Terri Jones.   My background begins with a 5 year old working Mal I rescued in California in 1990.  Ranger came to me for basic obedience and when I realized his living conditions I kept him.  Shortly after moving to Northern Nevada in 1992, I met Sandy Moore and began my education into the world of herding dogs.  Ranger did not have the temperament for herding. So at that time I started looking for a line of GSDs that I felt could give me what I was looking for.  Shortly thereafter I was given an Australian Shepherd out of working lines and began training and trailing.  Since then I have found the German Shepherds I was looking for and have raised a litter.  I still compete with my Aussies as well.

I have a fondness for all herding breeds that I think began in the early 90’s with Ranger.  I love the intelligence and the work ethic inherent in these breed.  Since I have begun judging and training professionally, I don’t believe there is a herding breed that I have tested or trained that I haven’t liked.

Not ready to enter a herding trial? Want to try herding?  Curious as to what all the fuss is about?

Introduction to Herding Seminar with Craig Eddins

Craig Eddins

Craig Eddins is from Menan, Idaho. He has been training dogs for the past 15 years. He has had Heelers, Aussies, Border Collies and Kelpies. He belongs to the Eastern Idaho Stock Dog Association and Westen Cow Dog Association. Craig is a pen rider for a cattle feed yard so his dogs are used daily in a true working situation.

Craig has been invited to participate in the Red Bluff Bull, Gelding and Stockdog sale for the past five years. Red Bluff is a quality assurance sale and the dogs are "sifted" quite heavily. Craig has never had a dog that has been sifted. In 2006 Craig, with his dog, Maude, won all three rounds at Red Bluff earning first place and topped the sale. In 2007 Craig, with his dog, Butch, placed second at Red Bluff. He only trials a few times each year.

Craig will be conducting a clinic in May at the Duvall Ranch in Granada, Colorado. He also gives private lesson at his home in Menan.  Craig enjoys training his own dogs as well as training for others. He has worked with many breeds including Malinois.
